If you can't feel the target muscle burning by rep 8, strip some weight off and slow down the tempo.

A Non-Awkward Guide to Using Weight Machines at Gym Facilities

The fastest way to look like a rookie is to sit down and start pumping reps without adjusting the seat. Most using weight machines at gym floors have a red or yellow 'pivot point' indicator—usually a bolt or a bright plastic cap. Your joint (like your elbow on a preacher curl or your knee on a leg extension) needs to be perfectly aligned with that bolt.

If you are misaligned, you aren't just losing tension; you are shearing your joints. Take the extra five seconds to click the seat into the right notch. It makes a massive difference in how the load travels through your body and helps you use a weight without looking dumb in front of the regulars. If the machine feels clunky or your joints ache, the seat height is almost always the culprit.

Do You Actually Need One in Your Garage?

I love a good selectorized lat pulldown, but I’m the first to admit they are space hogs. For most home gym owners, a single-purpose machine is a luxury you probably don't have room for unless you're working with a multi-car garage.
